Our Story
The foundation started with a dream: to empower individuals and communities.
Growing up in a middle-class Nigerian household, Dr. Gbolahan Ogunbayo experienced both comfort and lack. Sickly as a child and often in hospitals with his mother, a nurse, he was inspired to become a doctor so he could one day care for others like himself.
After nine transformational years in medical school and eight years of post-graduate training in the United States, he was ready to give back. Inspired by the NASA Space Center in 2016, Be Greater Than Average Foundation was formed, with Dr. Ogunbayo as its sole financier.
The first beneficiaries included an amputee who received an all-expense-paid prosthesis, a Nigerian fish farmer who expanded his business with a financial boost, a juice and parfait company that scaled production, residents of a nursing home in Kentucky who received Christmas gifts, and various recipients of self-help books across the U.S. and Canada.
After much soul-searching and prayer, in July 2025, the Foundation was officially incorporated to expand the good work started by the Ogunbayo family.
Why we Exist
Because greatness is not reserved for a few, it belongs to everyone. By empowering the underprivileged, we are building stronger individuals, stronger families, and stronger communities.
